From November 2007, the Romanian Cultural Institute through the National Book Centre has become involved, as partner alongside Stiftung Rheinland-Pfalz für Kultur – Künstlerhaus Edenkoben, in the Balkanische Aphabete 2007 – 2010 project, which aims at promoting Bulgarian, Greek and Romanian poetry, helping translators improve, editing and publishing anthologies and organising series of international readings with authors from these countries.
The Bulgarian section of the project has already been completed last year, in 2008 with the publication of the Balkanische Alphabete/Bulgarien in 2008 and a series of readings of the Bulgarian authors at Literaturhaus Frankfurt, Literaturhaus München and Berlin, Künstlerhaus Edenkoben etc. In the first half of 2009, a creative workshop was held in Greece with Greek and German poets, and the publication of the Balkanische Alphabete/ Griechenland is scheduled for the spring of 2010.
The first stage of the Romanian section started with a workshop held in May, 2008 at Portul Cultural Cetate. Three German poets and three Romanian ones had the opportunity to work together for several days on the Romanian texts whose German translation was published this year. In September the Balkanische Alphabete/Rumänien anthology (Ernest Wichner, ed., Constantin Acosmei, Vasile Leac, Iulian Tănase, authors, Sabine Küchler, Hans Thill and E. Wichner, translators) was published by the prestigious publishing house Wunderhorn Verlag in Heidelberg.
Between 5 – 9 October, 2009, the anthology is being launched and promoted through a series of readings by Romanian poets Constantin Acosmei, Vasile Leac and Iulian Tănase in Berlin, Bonn, Edenkoben and Frankfurt, with Ernest Wichner (poet, translator and director of Literaturhaus Berlin) and Hans Thill (poet and director of Wunderhorn Verlag) as moderators.
